Thursday morning saw a major gas leak at a plant in Andhra Pradesh, India. Early reports indicated that 7 people had died including two children due to gas leak. Footage of the incident showed people lying on the roads near the site, possibly unconscious. Many were being carried into ambulances as people rushed to help.
The gas leakage happened from LG Polymers chemical plant in Visakhapatnam. Over 200 are reported to have fallen sick. Some pegged this number at 1000. People complained of burning sensation in their eyes and breathing difficulties. The gas had been neutralized, ANI reported. The maximum impact was in about 1-1.5 km but the smell was in 2-2.5km. NDRF said the Factory was trying to reopen after the lockdown.
